Important Water Tips For CPAP Machines

A CPAP machine is a special device that is designed to open up your airways when you sleep at night. An integral part of this machine is the water you put in it. If you're looking to get the most out of your CPAP treatments, these water tips are important to remember.

Consider Distilled

When you put water in a CPAP machine, it will be entering your airways. You thus need to make sure it's as pure as possible. You can feel better about this when you go with distilled water as opposed to tap water.

Distilled water has been treated and thus doesn't contain as many contaminants as tap water. You'll then be able to use your CPAP machine at night with a lot more confidence, as you know the water entering your body is from a pure source.

Keep Water Protected

As mentioned earlier, it's important to keep contaminants out of the water that goes into your CPAP machine. You thus need to do your best to keep your water protected until it's placed in your CPAP machine for use.

Even after placing water in your CPAP machine, you need to watch out for potential contaminants. These might include perfume, scented oils, and cologne. Keep these substances far away from your CPAP machine so that there isn't a chance of them affecting the water in your machine. As long as you follow this protocol, you shouldn't have to worry about contamination.

Be Cautious When Traveling

It's smart to be cautious with the water that is used in your CPAP machine, but you need to be even more vigilant when you travel. You may not be sure about the purity of water in areas that you don't live around. Thus, you need to be cautious when traveling.

Always make sure you keep CPAP distilled water on hand if you can. Bottled water might also be something to consider instead of using the tap water in the area you're traveling to. Just err on the side of caution and don't be afraid to consult with your doctor if you're still no sure what to do.

CPAP machines are incredible for helping people breathe at night. In order for yours to work optimally, it will need water. You won't have to worry about any issues with the water you use as long as you know what protocol to follow, whether you're at home or traveling the country.
